Für alle "Jecken" hier die aktuellen Termine für das diesjährige Karnevalstreiben in Rethymnon:

Carnival in Rethymnon

During the three week period leading up to the start of Lent several events are organised. These include treasure hunts for children and adults and fancy dress parties hosted by the different carnival teams. The festivities culminate with a grand parade through the main streets of Rethymnon on Shrove Sunday.

Details of Carnival Events for 2006:

Thursday 08/02 – 15/02
Exhibition on the history of the treasure hunt in the ‚EOMMEX‘ hall.

Friday 10/02, Saturday 11/02 and Monday 13/02
Theatre performance in the Odeion Hall (Neratze mosque)
‚Babies are delivered by the stork‘ by Th. Papathanasiou and M. Reppa.
Starts at 21.30 on Friday and Saturday, 19.30 on Monday

Sunday 12/02
Treasure hunt for children.
Starts at 09.30 at the Sochoras football ground (near police station)

Other festivities at the town hall:
– Graffiti festival with the Rethymnon carnival as theme (13.00hrs)
– Street theatre with theatrical group ‚OMMA‘ (18.00hrs)
– Open Air Carnival Ball (21.00hrs)

Friday 17/02
Big Party for all the groups taking part in the Treasure Hunt
Starts at 21.00hrs in the ‚Megaro‘ Centre

Saturday 18/02 – Sunday 19/02
17th Treasure Hunt organised by the ‚Anichneftes‘ group

Thursday 23/02
‚Tsiknopemti‘ or Pancake Day celebrations in the Old Town (evening)
Carnival party for children in the Greek Lyceum Hall at 16.00hrs (beach road, near the old harbour)

Sunday 26/02
Big Dance Party for all the Carnival Groups in the ‚Megaro‘ Centre
Starts at 20.30hrs

Saturday 04/03
Evening parade along Kountourioti
Starts at 21.00hrs

Sunday 05/03
Main Carnaval Parade
Starts at 14.00hrs

Monday 06/03
Traditional celebrations in the villages of Armeni, Gerani, Meledoni and Meronas.
